Sociology and Ethics Essay Sociology is the study of social life and social structure by examining the groups and social institutions in which people shape. Sociologists are concerned with the characteristics of groups, organizations, and societies, and how peoples behaviors contribute within these contexts (www. smsu. edu). A sociology major provides a wide range of opportunities that requires only the B. A. or the B. S. degree, because almost any career requires the kind of skills and knowledge developed in studying sociology. This major ranges from the study of family relationships to the study of large bureaucratic institutions in major industrialized nations. Sociology majors may enter hundreds of career paths. They may specialize in criminology, demography, family relations, gerontology, social welfare, sex and gender, race relations, social change, and social status. Sociology majors can find jobs in social service agencies, public relations, government agencies, educational institutions, hospitals, management, and human resources. Employers search for people with the ability to work well under pressure, and to be able to read and write analytically (www. jmu. edu). Being a sociologist involves ethnographical, epistemological, and ideological that set sociologists with the dominant culture. Sociologists are attempted to analyze accurate and precise data through scientific methods that are as objective as possible, without any biases. They rely on careful recording of systematic observations and accumulative of data (Schaefer, 8-9). These principles may conflict with general ethical issues of the clients rights and treatment with due regard for their integrity, dignity, and objectivity. This potential ethical conflict provides one of the reasons for the development of a Code of Ethics. In general, sociologists should practice this Code to resolve ethical issues that they face almost daily, and strive for value neutrality with respect to their research. According to Max Webers view, sociologists must practice value neutrality in their research. Weber pointed out that researchers may brings any beliefs they wish, but they must not confuse their own values with the social reality being studied (Schaefer, 74). When researchers work on an investigation that they find repugnant, and they bring their deepest morals or religious beliefs to the investigation, the end result will be unsuccessful. Sociologists should strive to maintain objectivity and integrity in the process of conducting sociological research and practice. It is sociologist responsibility to ensure that their own personal feelings or views do not influence the interpretation of data.

The Role of Computers in Our Future As far as computers in the future, I feel that they are going to play a major role. They will be in everyday life, in everything we do. There will be many areas affected by the wide use of computers. Areas such as: home, work, schools, automobiles, electronics, and humans. Although these areas are already affected, they will be even more as we move into the future. To begin this discussion I will show you the effects on the work place and humans. As for humans in the work place, work will become easier. So this means less stress for humans because the computers will be doing all the work. This in turn means that humans will be doing less and less because the computers will be slowly taking over. As for a human going to work, this may only consist of telling a computer what to do all day. Or even from your own home, waking up and telling your computer what to do so you do not even have to go into work. Now for communication with computers, this may get so advanced that your computer may even ask you questions about the work it is doing and that you are getting paid to do. So this is where I see computers going as far as work and humans. Now for computers in the schools, I feel we will soon have no books and all work will be done on computers. Even homework will be done on the internet and e-mailed to the teacher. Children will be taught about computers at a younger and younger age. This in turn will make the younger generations more and more skilled in electronics and understanding how they work. This will have a very large impact on they way projects and or work is viewed. The next step is computers in the home. Computers will play a major role in homes. They will automatically pull the bread in to toast it with no lever. It will in turn tell you how your food is doing while it is cooking in the microwave and then tell you when it is done. Now to enter your own home you may only have to say â€Å"open door†. Orem’s Theory and Family Health Nursing Essay

In the presentation of a theoretical discussion on the concept of self care with particular considerations for family nursing practice, the concept of self-care is mainly known in Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory of nursing. Orem’s theory views the individual as a self-care agent with unique needs which will affect family health thereby providing support that health education and evaluation is the main role of nurses (Cody, 2006:308). Nurses according to Cody believes that family models complement the nursing models to provide a more holistic and comprehensive perspective of clients and their concerns (2006:308). Orem’s theory has therefore a clinical applicability at home in the growing demand for home-based health nursing services. The theory has provided that practice will be grounded in evidence–based clinical knowledge and skills within the framework of family, home and community concepts (Orem, 2001:2). Likewise, as self–care has been introduced and incorporated into the practice of community health a provision has included the provision of care to families and other healthcare givers while giving utmost concern to the individual needs of patients and clients. Ali analyzed distinct models presented in 1990 which included Orem’s theory and decided that Orem’s self-care theory should encourage nurses to anticipate the potential problems which include family circumstances in family health planning from which a care plan can be derived (Dolan and Holt, 2000:4). A particular example in this case would point to a hospitalized vehicular accident patient where after hospital treatment and rehabilitation is ordered to complete his recovery at home. Completing the period of recovery at home necessitates his re-entry to his normal way of life prior to the accident. The family is therefore enhanced to effectively encourage the patient to attend to his self-care needs while staying on the sidelines yet supportively providing positive encouragement for the patient’s complete recovery. The effective role of nurses is providing family education for the benefit of adjustment to the temporary family role changes. Nurses at the same time bring to light the family models to compensate Orem’s nursing model and provide a more holistic approach to clients and their concerns (Cody, 2006: 308). In this time of cost containment, nurses in a given health care setting cannot lock horns with the Medicare illness models of home care that totally focuses on the individual patient alone (Harris, 2004: 131). Maintaining health is a priority and an ethical requirement for nurses that include the family particularly in home-based care provision, where the absence of one deems the effort â€Å"moot and academic†. The applicability of Orem’s theory in family health is therefore enhanced as community based nursing practice seeks to resolve the responsibility of the patient and family to be included in the nursing care plan (Harris, 2004:132). In the triage system, a problem-oriented approach encompasses assessment levels and Orem’s model can provide a framework for organized family nursing assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation (Dolan and Holt, 2000: 4). Using Orem’s model while negotiating a holistic approach where the family plays an important role is likewise seen in the above example where the family effectively participates in the planning of actions to help the patient effectively cope with his recovery while his self-integrity is maintained or even enhanced. The nurse must therefore include in her assessment the family’s perceptions toward the illness of a family member which is vital in the setting of goals as a means of promoting self-care to the ailing family member. This will pose as a challenge to the nurse as family members individual ideas may vary relative to the patient’s condition. It cannot be ignored that older members of the family may feel overly protected to the patient because of the existing relationship. This challenge can be overcome by the nurse as she effectively provides a choice of promoting Orem’s theory that each family member will comfortably take part with a concise goal of promoting human integrity of structure and functioning (Orem, 2001:522). Likewise, the individual needs of family members should also be looked into as the practice of activities are initiated and performed for the sick member to maintain life and health while promoting a sense of well-being for everyone (Orem, 2001: 43). The family thus plays an important and essential role for the individual patient, whether sick or well which thereby boosts the importance of Orem’s theory in the family health nursing practice. As a helping art for holistic care, family circumstances in family health planning should therefore be included as the derivatives in the formation of a care plan. The individual concepts of each family member will help identify goals while entertaining individual or group limitations that will affect in the implementation and evaluation. A family model is selected for use after the nurse gathers preliminary data about the family and identifies its unique and common patterns (Cody, 2006:308). As an example, Cody cited that a nurse can use Orem’s theory for a 9 year old child affected with ear infection and the mother’s treatment of the child while asserting that other family models will complement Orem’s model to enhance understanding of the family’s structure and functions (2006:308). Orem’s theory therefore provides a common language that enhance improved communication and consistency in the delivery of care while proposing that nurses play a key role in the achievement of self-care for which sophisticated communication skills, teaching skills and specialized knowledge and an awareness of the multiple factors affect the provision of care and enhances the role of the family in the value of health for everyone.

Answers: Introduction This article is about a government related department DSI. It provides critical data to the government department as well as it spread data to the public area. It is necessary that the data given by the DSI should be correct, i.e. If DSI will give any false statement to government or to the public, and then it will affect the reputation of the government as well to DSI department. The rate of the data is booming at high peak as the population is increasing. To manage the large chunk of data, the DSI is deciding to shift its business from OSDS to cloud computing form. The DSI wants to select a system which is reliable, and also it should be risk-free. The DSI wants to take a perfect decision on the architecture, and on the model used for cloud computing (Almutairi, Ghafoor, 2014). This implementation of this decision requires a lot of the investment cost, so the DSI wants to take a perfect and fruitful decision. Any incorrect decision will lead to loss of investment cost as well as i t can harm the data stored in the database, and further, it will cause loss to the DSI department as well as it will affect the reputation of the department and government. There are various requirements related to resource management, remote administration, and SLA management The various cloud computing deployment models that vary with their architecture Public cloud computing: This is based on a pay per use technology. The customer has to pay by the application, data, or services used by them (Wang, 2015). The setup of this method is inexpensive. This is a cheap method because all the applications cost, hardware tool cost, and software tool cost are managed by the cloud provider. There is no any wastage of resources, as the customer uses the resources depending on the requirement and pay for the resources depending on the use. It is a less expensive method as compare to the other models. Private cloud computing: These are managed by the internal providers. In the organizations, there are separate team for handling this service of cloud computing. It is used for critical data, and it is an expensive method. It is different from a private model, because it is accessed by the unique organization. Hybrid cloud provider: It is a combination of both private as well as public cloud. These are managed by internal as well as by external providers. It is managed by the internal as well as by the external cloud providers. Community cloud: It is accessed by the limited cloud users. If those specific customers, give access to the external entities or users for accessing the data then they can also access the data from the cloud servers. Inter-cloud: It is a combination of more than two clouds, which are interrelated with each other. The DSI should adopt the Hybrid model because it is a combination of both private and public cloud computing models. If DSI goes for private, then it is an expensive method, and it needs a lot of investment costs. If DSI goes for public, then it is not safe as the DSI has to send information to the public, and government and the data are very critical and sensitive, and it needs to be placed confidentially (Avram, 2014). Then, it should opt for the hybrid as the less sensitive data should be placed on the public cloud, and important data should be placed on the private cloud so that outsiders cant play with the crucial information. The different cloud computing delivery models are: IaaS-Infrastructure as a Service: They provide a full control over the cloud computing environment. It is a safe model, as the data used by the cloud users is monitored (by the IaaS). It also helps in managing the software as well as hardware requirements, required by the different cloud customers. PaaS-Platform as a Service: They provide a limited control on the cloud computing environment. SaaS-Software as a Service: They provide a very limited control on the cloud computing environment. It doesnt provide support in managing the customer requirements. DSI should opt for Infrastructure as a Service model. It provides proper monitoring of the data (accessed by the cloud users). It also helps in, managing, and creating the applications, and hardware and software needs (Almutairi, Ghafoor, 2014). Also, it monitors the whole cloud computing environment carefully. Both the models and architecture are mentioned in the SLA. This agreement also contains the capacity, speed, performance, throughput, etc. that the cloud providers are going to provide to the users. The various steps related to application resilience, disaster recovery, and backup management. In case of cloud computing (mostly in case of private cloud), the information can be updated or damaged by the attackers. Prevention is better than cure. The DSI data are very important, and it should be placed and managed in a secure manner. The DSI should place the critical data in a private place so that hackers cant affect the data. The DSI should place the important information on the private cloud and the cloud server should be monitored by the team of the organization, and other data should be placed in the public cloud. The DSI can use a firewall to make the data safer. A Firewall is a combination of software as well as hardware, and it is used for securing the data from the outsiders attack. Also, the proper backup of the information should be taken, and copies should be placed in the data centers (within the organization, and the data centers present outside of the organization). The various security and government requirement required for this plan (for disaster management): Backup of the data: The backup of the data should be taken for the safety purpose. The replicated copies of the data should be placed on the internal as well as on the external servers. Encryption: It can be public key encryption or it can be private key encryption. In case of private key encryption, the sender and receiver both have private keys. In case of public key encryption, the sender has a public key, but the receiver has a private key (Choo, 2014). The sender sends the encrypted data to the receiver, and the receiver access the data by decoding or unlocking it (by using private key). The encrypted file should be placed on the cloud server so that it can access or used only by the valid and authorized person. Authentication: The proper Id should be given to all employees for accessing the server data and access given to different employees vary depending upon the ID given to the employees. Firewall: It should be placed on the servers, so that the data cant be interrupted by the outsiders. Any authorized person cant able to access the data. Password: A strong password should be created by the employees who are accessing cloud servers. The password should contain characters, symbols, special characters, and numbers; so that it can be easily hacked. Moreover, two-time verification technique should be used (while creating the password). The employee who is creating their ID for the data server has to create a password and also the employee has to enter the number (verification code that the person receives on the mobile). This provides safety as the theft cant access the data until the theft can hack the phone of the person (earlier, the verification code sent to that phone). System logs: The system should manage the log time and duration of accessing the database. The various guidelines related to SLA: Cloud source: The party that requires this service or the users. Cloud provider: The party that provides this facility, the party can be a part of the organization, or it can be outsiders. Cloud server: The place which is used for placing and managing the data. Pay-Per-Use: The more the person uses the service, the more amounts the person has to pay to the providers. Log: A log should be maintained for recording the services used by the cloud users. SLA: It is an agreement between both the parties, i.e. between the cloud provider, and between the cloud customers. This agreement contains the capacity, speed, performance, throughput, etc. that the cloud providers are going to provide to the users.
